Biography

Dr. Daniel Chu is an Associate Professor in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed his undergraduate studies at Yale and obtained his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Upon completion of his general surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center, which included a two-year research fellowship, Dr. Chu then completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Chu is double-board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. In addition to his clinical interests in colorectal diseases, Dr. Chu is a dedicated researcher and educator. His practice specializes in the spectrum of colorectal disease including inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, and anorectal disorders. His NIH-funded research interests focus on identifying, understanding, and reducing health disparities in surgery with particular attention to health literacy. He is the proud dad of Teto, a German Shepherd, in addition to two human kids (Nausicaa and Rikou).
