Leading Healthy Eating and Activity Promotion (LEAP)
The LEAP project seeks to improve the health for all individuals living with a history of cancer or walking the cancer survivor journey with a friend or family member. We do so by adapting beneficial elements of prior scientifically based diet and exercise programs for community access and implementation.
The project works closely with the community through the community-based Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation (PIE) working group. The working group provides input on the LEAP program structure and approaches needed for the community to implement the program short and long term.
Program Pillars & Aims
Aim 1
Design the diet and exercise LEAP program for cancer survivors and their friends and family.
Aim 3
Evaluate the programs’ implementation and success in your community.
Intervention Areas
The LEAP program will be implemented in communities where PREEMpT is not. The communities include Bessemer, Lipscomb, Wenonah, and Brighton—which are highlighted below in green.
LEAP Project Research Framework
The conceptual framework guiding the LEAP project is Proctor’s model of implementation outcomes. This framework facilitates the implementation of evidence-based components focused on diet, physical activity, and healthy body weight.
