What is the CARES Center?
The Cancer Awareness, Research, Engagement, and Support (CARES) Center aims to reduce the burden of cancer and cancer disparities in areas where large parts of the population have been continually affected by poverty.
The center is one of only five Centers funded by the National Cancer Institute under the Persistent Poverty Initiative.
Our Goals
The partnership will expand scientific understanding that reduces cancer risk and improves health after a cancer diagnosis, specifically through programs that:
- Make changes to the living environment, such as the physical, social, economic, and service environments
- Increase the capacity of communities to implement and disseminate evidence-based interventions.
Are you an investigator, community member, policy maker, or someone else looking to get involved with the CARES Center? See how we can make a positive change in your career or in the community.
