Improving Health Outcomes for Black Women in Alabama
The need for immediate change in how health care is experienced by thousands of Black women (in cities across the United States) continues to grow, day by day. Breast and Cervical Navigation in Communities for Equity (BC-NiCE) is a study funded by the Black Women’s Health Imperative in collaboration with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Preventive Medicine and the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center to address this need through a new research study open to Black women in Alabama.
The goal of this study is to increase cancer screenings by identifying and addressing barriers to breast and cervical cancer care among African American/Black women in Alabama. The purpose of the study is to investigate reasons African American women in Alabama may or may not choose to seek breast and cervical cancer screening and follow-up care. This program will focus on African American women in Alabama, ages 21-74, through a survey and follow-up interview. If interested, call (205)-934-1719 to check if you’re eligible.
What to Expect
Participants will complete a survey and follow-up interview. In the survey, participants will be asked questions about barriers and facilitators of breast and cervical cancer screening. In the interview, we will ask for feedback about their experiences related to breast and cervical cancer screening.
