2019–present Vestavia Hills High School RISE
Since 2019, Vestavia Hills High School Rebels Impact through Service and Engagement (RISE) has been the driving force behind the research and related expansion of the AYA Program. This remarkable initiative, driven by the passion and dedication of VHHS students, has raised over $1,000,000 to date, significantly impacting the lives of young cancer patients today and in the future.
RISE was established with dual goals of engaging students in meaningful community service and fostering a spirit of philanthropy. Each year, students participate in various fundraising events, from Rebel Run 5K to community-wide activities. The research being led by the AYA Program has been the RISE beneficiary since 2019. The substantial funds raised have been instrumental in advancing research; this has focused on increasing fertility preservation access and clinical trial enrollment so along the way, the students have also been improving the quality of life for AYAs with cancer. The AYA Program’s success is a testament to the power of community and the incredible potential of young people to make a difference. RISE continues to inspire and mobilize the greater Birmingham area and beyond, proving that when we come together with a common purpose, we can achieve extraordinary things. The legacy of RISE is one of compassion, resilience, and hope.
