Public Service Recognition Week
About Public Service Recognition Week
APSTI seeks to promote public service by highlighting the excellent work being done by individuals in the public and nonprofit sector. Annually during the first week of May—nationally known as Public Service Recognition Week—APSTI will raise awareness through a series of events—such as a gathering of “Unsung Heroes” nominated by their peers, a social media campaign, thanking newly-graduated MPA students, and more.
2026 Unsung Heroes
Nominations for the 2026 Unsung Heroes open on February 18 and close on March 16.
Nominators can only nominate one person. Nominees should be someone you have observed at work, due to working at the same organization or at a partner organization. These are meant to recognize individuals for their dedication to a career in public service (i.e., not volunteers). Specifically, we aim to recognize individuals whose efforts often go unrecognized; therefore, please avoid nominating those in executive leadership roles or who have received other accolades (e.g., Top 40 Under 40, etc.) for their work in the past.
