Welcome to the Sewell-Loftin Lab

Dr. Sewell-Loftin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, through the Heersink School of Medicine and the School of Engineering. She is also an Associate Scientist in the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Mechanobiology in the Tumor Microenvironment

Our lab focuses on understanding how biomechanical factors regulate angiogenesis and tumor progression. We utilize microfluidic devices to mimic the tumor microenvironment including vasculature and stromal cells. Our highly modular, unique microtissue systems permit us to interrogate various biomechanical parameters independently of one another. Currently, we have projects focused on breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and head/neck tumors.

Open Positions

We are currently seeking outstanding and highly-motivated graduate students to join the Sewell-Loftin Lab! For more information, please contact Dr. Sewell-Loftin (mksewellloftin@uab.edu).
