A researcher III position in Surgical Oncology and Cancer Immunology is immediately available in the laboratory of Ashley M. Holder, M.D., at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Department of Surgery. Our lab is part of a multidisciplinary research organization focused on translational immunologic research of melanoma, an aggressive type of skin cancer. We are exploring the lymphatic transport of immune cells between primary cutaneous melanoma and the sentinel nodal basin to understand how macrophages facilitate lymphatic metastasis in melanoma. We are highly collegial group with collaborations within Birmingham, AL, the USA and around the globe.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum 3 years of experience OR
  • Master’s degree without experience

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical expertise and experience to design and complete research projects:
    • Tissue culture
    • Small animal research and surgery
    • Small animal colony maintenance and genotyping
    • Basic immunologic and sequencing experiments
  • Maintains records and data collection
    • Figures for manuscripts and grants
  • Trains in new techniques as they emerge as appropriate
  • Makes an impact in cancer research and the lives of people with cancer!
