Applied Practice Experience (APEx)

Welcome students, faculty, and preceptors!

The Applied Practice Experience (APEx) is a required component for all students working towards a MPH or DrPH degree. At the MPH level, the APEx takes the form of an internship; at the DrPH level, a practicum.

The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) requires that “all graduate professional public health degree students develop skills in basic public health concepts and demonstrate the application of these concepts through a practice experience that is relevant to student’s areas of specialization.”

The applied practice experience is an opportunity for students to acquire ‘real world’ public health experience, apply concepts learned in class to actual projects, and explore different public health settings. Because it is a requirement for graduation, there are no waivers.
